WASTE & RECYCLING ADVISORS
Fixed Term Contract until December 2009
(with the possibility of four months extension to Easter 2010 plus an additional vacancy from Easter 2009)
£15,000 – £20,000, subject to Job Evaluation
Surrey Heath Borough Council is facing a real challenge with how to deal with its waste. The current waste collection methods are simply not achieving the desired or required results.
The Council is in the process of re-letting its waste collection contract and have the opportunity to significantly change the way the service is delivered. The changes will also help achieve the Council’s recycling target of 40% by 2010. It also faces a range of other targets.
We need a team of committed, enthusiastic and motivated people to assist in raising awareness of waste and recycling. Ideally you should be educated to at least GCSE level, have had some experiences of waste or environmental issues and also in promotions and marketing. However, it is more important that you can communicate effectively and are committed to the goals of the scheme.
We are looking for individuals with excellent people skills, who can communicate with the general public, businesses, parish council and community groups, schools and other interested parties. You will encourage public participation in waste minimisation, recycling and composting initiatives. You should also be highly motivated, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about waste awareness and recycling of all kinds.
As a front line member of staff you will be a key link between the Council and the community. Surrey Heath’s residents can be diverse, so you must be able to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. You will be required to work in the early mornings, evenings and at weekends for some parts of the project – this may be outdoors in all weathers and there may be some lifting involved.
We are initially looking for two candidates to work on a Fixed Term Contract until December 2009, with the possibility of an extension for a further four months. In addition to this there may be a requirement for an additional person to work on a Fixed Term Contract from Easter 2009 and we would welcome applications declaring an interest in this third post.
For an application pack you can either download the information from this website and apply on line or, alternatively, e-mail your request to recruitment@surreyheath.gov.uk, quoting the job title and post number DES905.
(Please note, CV’s will only be accepted when accompanied by a completed application form.)
Closing date: Midday Friday 24 October 2008
