Elmbridge Leisure and Cultural Services is a fast moving Division dedicated to providing high quality services, which meet the needs of the community and contribute to a better quality of life.

Elmbridge Leisure and Cultural Services is looking to appoint a Sports Development Assistant to help deliver a wide range of sports development initiatives to the local community with the focus on London 2012 Olympics.

The post will be key to assisting the Sports Development Officer with the delivery of the Sport and Physical Activity Strategy as well as establishing close links with local schools and sports clubs, coordinating the Elmbridge Surrey Youth Games squads, implementation and delivery of the SHOUT! Sports holiday programme, co-ordinating the Inclusive sport project and assisting the delivery of the ‘Elmbridge Celebrates… Project.

Working within the Leisure Development Team, the suitable candidate will ideally have a good knowledge of sports development and local government as well as a demonstrable interest in the benefit of providing sport to the local community.

To succeed you will need:

  • an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a sports related subject;
  • experience in the development of sporting, physical activities and health opportunities for young people
  • a good working knowledge of local, regional and national initiatives, policies and sport governing body plans;
  • great communication skills, and the ability to develop excellent working partnerships with coaches, clubs and schools and other internal and external agencies;
  • very good organisational skills;
  • a flexible approach to work and access to a vehicle to enable travel throughout the Borough.

This contract is to cover a secondment linked to covering maternity leave and is expected to be until the end of November 2012 or return of the postholder from Maternity Leave.
