This is a key post located the Development Control Section dealing with all development control matters in part of the Borough. You will be expected to manage a challenging personal workload including appearing at Public Inquiries. You will assist the Development Control Management Team in the day-to-day management of the workload, and you may need to attend meetings of one of the Area Planning Sub-Committees to provide professional advice. You will need a degree/diploma in Town Planning, membership of the RTPI, and sound development control experience.
The post requires excellent communication skills and a positive and progressive attitude towards the development control process. The postholder should be committed to the continued successful implementation of the service improvements put in place following a Best Value review.
The section is one of the busiest in the country and sets very high standards for the delivery of planning decisions within government targets. This has continually been recognised by the award of Chartermark and ‘Excellent’ status. The Borough is currently experiencing heavy demands for development and equally strong pressure to protect the local environment. It covers extensive high quality residential areas, large areas of Green Belt, an important stretch of the Thames and several Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings.
