Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is set in the leafy
county of Surrey. We are traversed by the North Downs
escarpment, a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
We deliver services to one of the most attractive areas of
England – and we’re dedicated to enhancing everything that
we do.
The role of Principal Accountant (& Deputy Section 151 Offi cer)
represents an excellent opportunity for a capable and ambitious
finance professional looking to develop their career by taking
on a more senior position.
Responsible for leading the Technical & Reporting team, you’ll
oversee all aspects of financial performance reporting and play
a vital role in the continuous development of the Finance
function. As well as ensuring that key accounting processes
such as closing the accounts and budget preparation are
completed on time and to the required standard, you’ll also
supervise the production and development of financial
performance reports. And, when it comes to driving initiatives to
develop both the Finance function and financial processes
across the council, again we’ll look to you. Providing professional
and technical advice, helping others develop key technical
accounting processes and their own professional expertise,
deputising for the Finance Manager (Chief Financial Officer) –
all and more are aspects of this challenging role.
To rise to the challenge, you’ll need to be a CCAB qualified
accountant with good post qualification experience and a
thorough knowledge of legislative frameworks and professional
best practice.
Adept at budget setting and closing, as well as report
development, you have excellent communication and
supervisory skills. What’s more, you’re assertive yet tactful,
deadline driven and used to presenting complex financial
information at a senior level. Importantly, you also have a good
understanding of the role of a Chief Finance Officer.
In return for your dedication, you’ll benefi t from a competitive
salary, and a pension scheme. Please note, although you will
generally be required to work 36 hours a week, we’ll expect you
to work additional hours, including some evenings, and during
election periods.
