Portage Support Workers support families of pre-school children with significant developmental needs through home visiting.

The Portage Support Worker works under the supervision of Portage teachers in the Area Portage team to support families with very young children who have developmental delay.

The post is open to individuals with a NNEB certificate /or NVQ level 3 or equivalent in early education. Some experience of supporting parents and /or work with children with special educational needs is desirable.

Portage Support Workers promote learning opportunities of children with additional support needs through regular home visiting support to the families. As well as working in partnership with parents they liaise closely with other professionals to promote a coordinated early support programme to the family and child.

Working both independently and as part of a small area team the candidate for this post will need to travel extensively across the South East area to visit families and Early Years Settings. The ability to travel around the county is essential.

The successful candidate will be expected to have well developed communication skills and the ability to guide and support parents in assisting their child’s learning.

Good written and IT skills are also required as well as a positive and flexible approach to working with families.

An enhanced CRB disclosure and a Children’s/Adults barred list check will be required for this role.
