Full-time, fixed-term maternity cover for 3 months in the first instance (with possibility of extension up to 6, 9 or 12 months in total)
Fixed-term maternity cover is required for the post of Surrey Historic Environment Record Assistant, part of the county’s Heritage Conservation Team that provides guidance and support to the eleven local planning authorities of the county.
Based at Surrey History Centre in Woking, you will help the Acting HER Officer manage and maintain the county’s hard-copy Historic Environment Record (HER) and associated online HER, which is the primary means of delivering historic environment information to council staff and a wide range of external parties, including archaeological contractors and consultants. Reporting to the Heritage Conservation Team Manager, you will be one of a team of heritage officers providing information and advice on the preservation, protection, promotion and interpretation of the historic environment within the county.
You will be self-motivated, committed, and enthusiastic, with strong team working skills, as well as an ability to take initiative, prioritise, meet deadlines and work under pressure. You should have a degree or equivalent in Archaeology or an equivalent related subject. You will have proven experience in the use of Historic Environment Records.
Interviews will be held on Thursday 30th September 2010, with an intention to appoint as soon as possible after interview.
