A radical restructuring of alternative education services in Surrey has resulted in the creation of 4 new Short Stay Schools. In the North East, the Short Stay School is on 2 sites, The Hersham Centre and The Sycamore Centre. Both Centres offer a range of intervention programmes for pupils on roll at local secondary schools and also provide full time education for permanently excluded pupils. The centres are also developing negotiated packages of full time and part time alternative provision for KS4 and 3 pupils who remain on the roll of their schools.
We need an excellent practitioner with significant management experience in mainstream schools or Short Stay Schools and a good knowledge of the national inclusion agenda. The role will require clear vision and practical skills to take a lead on the development of innovative, personalised learning opportunities for students out of school. Good people management skills and the ability to support staff through significant change will be essential in a creative and high challenge environment.
The Short Stay Schools are a key feature of Surrey’s innovative Alternative Learning Programme, a partnership between schools, the Local Authority and other key providers.
A enhanced CRB disclosure and a Children’s barred list check will be required for this role.
For an informal discussion about this role, please contact The Sycamore Centre on 01372 722939.
Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
