Family Support Co-ordinator (Syrian Refugees)

Are you passionate about making a difference and supporting families that need help? Can you engage effectively with whole families whilst managing expectations and personal boundaries? Do you have experience engaging with vulnerable people, working within a multi-agency context, keeping accurate records, assessing need and delivering a shared action plan?
Spelthorne Borough Council is recruiting a Family Support Coordinator to support and develop its work with refugees as per the Government’s Vulnerable Person’s Relocation (VPR) Scheme. The post holder will support families in Elmbridge and Epsom and Ewell Borough Councils and will have as a main base, Esher Civic Centre.
Applicants must be able to speak, read and write in Arabic to a professional level and have understanding of relevant cultural issues. They must also have a relevant qualification and/or professional experience in one of the following areas: child or adult social care, safeguarding, health, education, housing, youth work or work with parents.
Strong empathy and communication skills are imperative and the successful candidate will be required to quickly build trust and rapport; helping families to integrate, become independent and move productively forward. Applicants will be passionate, assertive, transparent, flexible, committed to equality of opportunity, highly organised and committed to multi-agency working, with strong skills in assessment and intervention.
Spelthorne Borough Council are committed to developing our staff and robust training and support is provided, including a L4 qualification in Working with Parents and Children.
