We are looking to recruit an Employment Support Officer to our existing team who will work directly with ethnic minorities, to engage with people with learning disabilities or autism spectrum disorders wishing to find paid work.
Focusing on Woking, Staines and Epsom, you will meet with community groups, families carers and other professionals to identify suitable individuals. You will work in a person- centred way with the individuals referred, to create a vocational profile, identifying skills, interests, aspirations and support needs and matching them to specific employment opportunities. We’ll support you through the job application and interview process and at your place of work. With a good understanding of cultural issues, legislation relating to employment and benefit issues, part of the role will be keeping the employee, employer and carer appropriately informed.
You will be a highly-motivated self-starter, prepared to work flexibly to fit in with the needs of clients and their employers. Experience of working with or engagement with ethnic minorities in Surrey will be important, but what we’re really looking for is confident communication skills and the determination to advocate on behalf of people with learning disabilities from ethnic communities.
An enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure check will be required for this role.
For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Christina Earl or Louise Blackman on 01483 519 960.
Interview date: 25 November 2008.
