A vacancy has arisen for an Education Welfare Officer to work within Surrey Children’s Service Locality Teams in North West Surrey.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will improve the welfare and education of school-age children by liaising between parents and all relevant parties to ensure regular school attendance. You will be responsible for monitoring registers, verifying reasons for absence and identifying cases of non-attendance that require further investigation. You will work closely with school staff to assess these cases, and will use your own drive and initiative to develop strategies to return pupils to school and be prepared to challenge attitudes which may hinder this objective. You will need an understanding of the statutory nature of education welfare work and be responsible for negotiating school attendance agreements/plans, holding review meetings, producing reports, preparing court files and sometimes referring to other agencies.

You should have a good standard of education and excellent communication skills, oral and written, relevant experience and evidence of recent career development. You will need to be comfortable and confident communicating with children, parents and other professionals. You will be required to travel throughout the county visiting schools and homes, therefore you should enjoy driving, must possess a current full driving licence and will need your own car insured for business purposes.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact Sharon Whiting on 01483 517 840.

An enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure and POCA check will be required for this role.
