Are you a sport and play fanatic? Do you have great den building skills or know the off side rule? Can you encourage challenge and uncertainty what children play? We are searching for an enthusiastic, dynamic, highly motivated individual with a real passion for working with children and young people to join a stimulating new project.

Elmbridge Borough Council is launching an exciting new Play Ranger project funded by the Big Lottery. This is an ideal opportunity for those who recognise the value of play to the development of the children and their communities. The workers will combine their knowledge of play values and community development out reach work, and will be advocates for children’s rights to play.

We are looking to appoint an individual to work as part of a team of two to co-ordinate and deliver the project. The post holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of play activities in parks, open spaces and woodland all year round. Community Play Rangers enable and encourage children to play freely outdoors.

Play sessions will be delivered outside schools hours all year round with one session at the weekend. Exact times will be agreed with the post holders.

Ideally we are looking for a candidate that can work 19 hours per week, however, we would consider candidates that are willing to work between 4 – 19 hours. Please state on your application form your availability.

To succeed you will need:
- Have an interest in sports, play or youth work and be enthusiastic about working with children
- To be able to work after school hours on a regular basis, school holiday periods and some weekends
- Extensive experience of working with children and young people
- The ability to be highly innovative and creative in the delivery of services
- Ability to work in partnership with community groups and other agencies
- The ability to work effectively in a small team.
- Willingness to work in all weathers
- Driving Licence
