This vacancy is announced by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, on behalf of the Salfords & Sidlow Parish Council who will employ the Clerk.

Salfords & Sidlow is a Parish within the Borough of some 2400 residents, occupying much of the rural area between Reigate/Redhill and Horley. The precept is currently £30,000. The Council consists of eight members, and owns Salfords Village Hall. There is further information about the Parish Council on its website, http://salfordsandsidlowpc.org.uk/ .

The overall responsibilities are to be the Proper Officer of the Council, to ensure that its instructions are carried out, to advise Councillors, and carefully to administer the Council’s activities and finances.

This includes preparation of agendas and minutes, keeping legal records, dealing with correspondence and invoices, preparing financial reports, producing information and detailed proposals for Councillors and being the point of contact between the Council, residents and others. You will also run the Village Hall and its bookings, supervise the caretaker and maintain and update the Council’s website.

The successful applicant will display: good English and typing ability, administrative experience, familiarity with computer (PC) systems and some experience of accounting.

He or she will get on well with the general public, have the capacity to take the initiative and work quickly and accurately. Applicants with experience of minute taking, report writing, and preparing accounts for audit and VAT will be advantaged; shorthand would be useful as would familiarity with Local Government procedures.
