The Heritage team manages, and opens to the public, a number of historic attractions, including Guildford House, the Guildhall, Guildford Castle and Guildford Museum. We are looking for a caretaker to work alternate Saturdays, as part of a small weekend team, ensuring our buildings and facilities are kept clean, secure, safe, well presented and in good order, both for the benefit of visitors and staff and to preserve them for the future.

Your work will include cleaning and tidying public and staff areas, including gardens; patrolling buildings and ensuring good security is maintained, monitoring health and safety on site and resolving or reporting maintenance incidents and issues. You will usually be based at Guildford House, will act as a keyholder, and provide occasional cover for emergency out of hours callout. You may also assist in hands-on preparations and support for exhibitions and other activities according to our programmes.

You will have experience of undertaking a range of practical caretaking duties, a working knowledge of health and safety practices relevant to sites that are open to the public and a basic knowledge of buildings, plant and equipment maintenance. You will be well organised, able to work on your own initiative, have good attention to detail and the ability to follow routines and tasks reliably and accurately. You should also have skills in working well with others and in communicating problems and information clearly.

This post is part time working 8.5 hours every other weekend, Saturday 8.30am – 12.30pm, 1pm – 5.30pm
