Message from the Chief Executive
“The Royal Borough of Kingston is continually aiming to push beyond its boundaries. Our corporate vision "Destination Kingston 2011" set out vital and inspirational goals - to make Kingston a place where people enjoy a good life, are happy and healthy and respect and support each other, where business is prosperous, and where vulnerable people have real choces about how they are looked after. These goals have captured the imagination of our staff and brought a passion and energy to the services they provide. My senior management team and I are clear our achievements are down to the quality and commitment of our staff. We recognise it is essential our staff are happy and empowered to fully contribute. Through our bi-yearly Staff Surveys we are able to get their feedback to build on what we are doing well, and address areas for improvement. Incredibly, 66% of staff responded to our last survey. The feedback demonstrated high levels of job satisfaction and positive attitudes throughout.”
Employee Benefits?
The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames presents a pleasant working environment and there is a friendly, co-operative atmosphere, valuing the contribution of each member of staff.
It is our policy to ensure that all employees are recruited, trained and promoted on the basis of ability, the requirements of the job and similar, objective criteria. All employees are equally encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities for training and career development.
Equality and Diversity?
It is also our policy to ensure that no employee or job applicant should receive more or less favourable treatment on the grounds of race, nationality, colour, ethnic or national origin, age, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, religion, creed or disability in any matters to do with employment.
The Council's Executive approved the revised Equality Scheme on 4 December 2007. The Scheme covers all areas of equalities and includes an action plan which is published as a separate document and will be continually reviewed. Under the Equality Standard for Local Government, we are systematically examining everything we do to ensure that we treat everyone fairly.
